Where to Find Great Dresses for Spring Events

It’s dress season.

Weddings, proms, graduations, baby showers, and warm-weather vacations are around the corner and finding a dress for these occasions can be so stressful.

I used to feel like whenever I needed a dress for something I could never find one. That’s why throughout my time working as a stylist, or even just shopping for myself, I started keeping a list of my go-to places that I can count on for these types of events.

Keep reading to learn where to look or book a styling session with me and I’ll find a dress for you!

Reformation

Reformation is known for its dresses – I mean author Emily Henry even includes them by name in her books so you know it’s true.

The brand not only offers stunning silhouettes in a variety of styles but also makes them from recycled materials meaning you’ll not only look good but also feel good about shopping sustainably.

Their spring and bridal lines have just started to drop and include a variety of vintage-inspired silhouettes in gorgeous hues like icy blues and butter yellows to refined floral prints.

My current favorite styles and what my clients have been loving are shown below (feel free to click on the image to view more details):

House of CB

House of CB is a British brand that is known for their well-constructed corseting. Their dresses became super popular in 2021 and with good reason.

They offer different bust sizing which again eliminates alterations but they do run on the more expensive side. I also would note that their sizing runs slightly small from being so structured and fitted. Luckily some Nordstroms do carry the brand in-store, but just look online ahead of time.

Some of the styles I would recommend again for weddings, bridesmaids, guests, graduations, and the like are (they all come in a bunch of colors & prints):

Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie just released its wedding guest dress collection but also carries a variety of other beauties including styles for everything from vacations to weddings.

The thing I love about Abercrombie dresses is that they offer various lengths so you don’t need to worry about having a dress hemmed or it being too short which is super convenient if you’re a panic shopper and waited until the last minute.

After combing through the wedding guest line and their collection of dresses, some of the styles I would recommend are the following (again, they also all come in a bunch of color ways):

ASTR the Label

ASTR the Label which makes beautiful, high quality dresses that are reasonably priced. You can find the brand at Nordstrom but I recommend looking through their website for their full collection.

Most of the dresses they released for this season feature florals and other feminine touches like ruffling and draping. I also feel that a lot of their are versatile enough styles to wear outside of the event you might be purchasing them for and can be dressed down with a simple mule or low profile white sneaker and a denim jacket.

Some of the styles I would recommend include:

Other brands that make great dresses

A couple honorable mentions to prevent this post from being too much longer are Revolve, LoveShackFancy, and RenttheRunway.

Revolve

Revolve has so so many amazing designers and dresses that this post would just become overwhelmingly long. I will say though, whenever I need a dress for something the first place I look is Revolve. They have so many styles for truly any occasion and offer some of the brands I mention in this post including Reformation, ASTR the Label, and LoveShackFancy.

That in mind, I personally see Revolve (despite being problematic in terms of influencer events) as a pillar of high-street fashion because it commercializes runway-style fashion and makes more artistic styles and luxury brands accessible.

Growing up, our parents looked to Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Macy’s whereas my generation and this coming generation look to Revolve. Revolve caters towards a younger generation and exposes them to these avant-garde designers where brands like Nordstrom and Bloomgindale’s do not.

Vintage, Thrift, & Rentthe Runway

Lastly, I also of course recommend searching through your favorite secondhand apps and stores and I’m happy to do for you.

I’d also recommend trying out RenttheRunway, an online retailer that allows you to rent a dress from well-known brands and send it back when you’re done.
