Where to Find the Best Denim Shorts + 8 Other Summer Bottoms

Summer is upon us and with the change in weather, a change in apparel is in order. That said, the summer season is something I hear a lot of clients struggle with – specifically finding comfortable and flattering shorts.

That’s why in today’s post, I’ll not only share where to find flattering and comfortable denim shorts, but also other warm weather bottoms that are just as versatile but even more comfy.

Denim Shorts You’d Actually Want to Wear

If you’ve been following me for some time then you will know I always recommend the Abercrombie & Fitch Curve Love 90s Relaxed Fit Jeans. So it should be no surprise that the shorts version is also on this list. The Curve Love line adds width at the hips so there is no gapping and the relaxed fit prevents awkward tightness around your thighs.

I specifically recommend the Curve Love High Rise Dad Short for a little bit of a longer inseam. Or try the High Rise Mom Short for the traditional cutoffs look without sacrificing comfortability and coverage.

Long-Line Shorts

Long-line shorts are very in for summer again. I personally love wearing a longer hem denim short for not only the security but also for the effortless edge the silhouette adds to your simple summer tank and sneakers outfit.

My favorite are the Reformation Raye shorts that come in a ton of colorways including the studded pair that I picked up. These are a relaxed fit so I recommend sizing down!

Fabric Shorts

Linen or tailored fabric shorts are always a great option. A neutral tone linen short specifically is almost exactly interchangeable with a denim short but again just way more comfortable. These are everywhere at the moment but some of my most recommended options are actually from Old Navy and H&M. They are so affordable and surprisingly good quality plus they come in a ton of different colorways.

For something more polished, I recommend a tailored short and specifically the Tailored Sloane Shorts from Abercrombie, aka the shorts version of my most recommended trousers that also come in Curve Love. Try pairing these with a high neck tank top and pointed toe mule for something more polished or a baby tee and sambas for a cool, casual look.

Skorts

We love a skirt but a skort just provides security especially on a breezy summer day or when you want to do that fun things like bike ride. They can be styled for a night out with a white baby tee and knee high boots. Or try styling a skort with a simple white tank, a top buttoned cardigan, and some ballet flats for a sweet daytime look or casual lunch option.

I recommend picking up a plain black one because of how seasonally versatile it is. Abercrombie’s Scarlett Mini Skort is a great option and also comes in other colors. My personal favorite skirt is this one from Garage because of the v-waist that adds a little something different. Plus, the material makes it super comfortable. Zara and ASOS also have tons of different colors and styles if you want something outside of a traditional black one.

Boxer Shorts

A boxer short is a kind of love it or hate it piece. You can definitely find these secondhand, but if you want to shop new I’d recommend looking at Oddli, a small, women-owned company that makes the cutest boxer shorts in a bunch of style prints. Or channel full pinterest girl aesthetic and just buy a pack of boxer shorts from the Men’s section and go off.

Simple outfit ideas are a white tee, sambas, and baseball cap. Or elevate them with a white tank, open linen button down, and some sandals.

Bloomers / Hot Shorts

Another love or hate piece and definitely a bit of a microtrend which we all know I personally hate. But I tried on our June Short at work with a graphic tee and combat boots and couldn’t deny that I felt like a bad bitch.

So as I always say, if you’re unsure about the trend or if it’s a microtrend, definitely pick up a pair from Depop first. Plus, Depop has so many to choose from and each unique in pattern, texture, and overall style. However, for a highstreet option, Revolve and Edikted have a lot of different styles from edgy to feminine.

Long White Skirts

Tiered white skirts have been everywhere since the spring and are actually very versatile. I personally love the juxtaposition of pairing one with a graphic tee and motorcycle boots but you can also style these in a more feminine way with a tie front tank top and some simple sandals.

Again, Depop is loaded with so many gorgeous iterations of these skirts so I highly suggest combing through there first before buying new! The versions I’ve seen are all so unique with pretty lace and embroidery that it makes styling a secondhand one way more original and personal.

Satin Midi Skirts

A satin midi skirt is a year-round closet essential but if you don’t already own one, now is definitely the time to invest.

For a splurge, I really do recommend the Layla from Reformation (also available in Petite). The delicate lace trim at the top just adds that little extra something to make it special.

However, Depop again has so many options so finding one will be a breeze. Also, try sizing up so you can where it low rise. I love styling a low rise skirt with a simple baby tee and sambas for an effortlessly cool girl look.

Linen Pants

Last but certainly not least – linen pants. Again, I recommend grabbing a pair from Old Navy and H&M for an affordable summer staple that comes in whatever color speaks to your style language.

If you’re traveling this summer, these are definitely a must. They roll up easily in your suitcase and can be styled with anything from plain tees and tanks to more blouse-y style tops meaning you can pack one pair of pants and get multiple looks out of them.

I recommend picking up an oatmeal colored pair if your style language is more on the chic side whereas I’d suggest black or white for more universal styling that you can wear during the transitional seasons. For a more summery, coastal vibe, definitely pick up a striped pair that is more trendy but still timeless in their own way.
