Will It Last? Summer ‘19

Today, I’m breaking down four of the most popular current trends and deciding if they will make it through the fall or flake off at the end of the summer.

Animal print is my absolute favorite trend of the season and let me tell ya, it is here to stay! I’m already seeing such great animal print pieces for fall like these two-tone auburn crocodile and snakeskin boots and this midi skirt with a darker brown cheetah print. Personally, I think animal print is the perfect way to spice up an outfit without being too loud – that is, if you pick the right pieces. That’s not to say you always have to tone it down, but for my gals who want to downplay the trend a bit, here are a couple tips:

First, use the 1/3 rule where one piece is animal print and the rest of your outfit is neutral. For example, a zebra print tank with black jeans, a leather jacket, and some booties is a simple outfit that’s still very much on trend. Next, try including pieces that subtly incorporate animal print like the brown crocodile purse shown above. Lastly, choose the print that suits your style best. For instance, zebra, cow, traditional cheetah are definitely the boldest of the animal prints, so maybe start with speckly cheetah or a muted snakeskin. Regardless of how you wear it, this trend is definitely lasting through the fall!

Next up – mini bags. These mini bags started popping up all over Instagram and Pinterest towards the end of spring. The first couple I saw were the classic round handle and flap closure, but now I’m seeing the cutest variations like that beaded wristlet or ring clutch above. With that said, I don’t think these mini bags are going anywhere and I think they might even make it all the way to December. I can totally see these gems on everyone’s arms at holiday parties or club nights. I mean, they are pretty handy because what more does a girl really need in her bag for a night out besides her phone, some cash or cards, and a lipgloss? Like I said, here to stay, ain’t goin’ away!

Next up another bag trend. These beaded bags were mini bag’s cousin who only comes to visit in the summer. That being said, these will not make it to fall. Yes, they are a cute way to stash your stuff, but the loose knitted beading is only really appropriate for summer. I mean, maybe in the very early fall you could get away with a red beaded bag like the one above or a solid pearl one for a party, but other than that, I just don’t see these cuties sticking around much longer. I mean, just picture the colors of the quintessential fall wardrobe: neutrals, deep browns, dark denim washes – I just don’t see these matching up. However, these bags were such fun to style and Delaney Childs was definitely the poster child for the beaded bag trend.

#4 Floss Heels

My last trend is the floss heel trend. I personally love these and for such a summery looking shoe, they will definitely be making their way to fall but then residing only as dressy heels afterwards because everyone knows sandals are for the spring and summer only. I mean, no one likes frozen toes but for a night out, we can all suck it up and order an extra cocktail to keep us warm. These floss heels are typically, but not always, accompanied by a low heel which makes them practical for both work and play. They also go with practically everything from shorts, to dress, to pants, throw these on to look effortlessly chic. I personally love the auburn pair above and can totally see this color inspiring other floss heels for the fall like a rich chocolate brown pair or even a black crocodile skin pair. Topshop has been my go-to shop for these bad boys as they have so many unique styles.

Well, that’s my two cents on these summer trends. Let’s see if they’re right!
